Shoulder Pain

The shoulder is one of the most movable and therefore one of the most unstable joints in the body.

This instability makes the shoulder susceptible to injury. It is made up of the humeral head (the upper end of the bone of the upper arm) fitting into the glenoid fossa of the scapula (shoulder blade). The humeral head is kept in place by the joint capsule and labrum, thick bands of cartilage that form an elongated cone where the humeral head fits. The rotator cuff muscles are the dynamic stabilizers and movers of the shoulder joint and adjust the position of the humeral head and scapula during shoulder movement.

The joint itself is held together by a capsule of connective tissue, and muscles. The muscles are called the rotator cuff muscles. There are four rotator cuff muscles and they stabilize the shoulder in different positions.

Rotator Cuff Injury Overview

Damage to any or all of the four muscles and the tendons that attach these muscles to bone can occur because of acute injury, or chronic overuse. This damage can cause significant pain and disability with range of motion and use of the shoulder joint.

Our approach to shoulder pain is to properly diagnose the problem and then implement a course of action to resolve the issues.

Our approach combines many of the following therapies:

  • Specific Shoulder Adjustments
  • Rotator cuff Strengthening/Stretching
  • Active Release Technique on Rotator Cuff and surrounding muscles
  • Therapies such as Ultrasound, Cold Laser, Electrical Stimulation
